Delight Your Guests with Mulled Wine

Chilled wine in the summer and warm slow cooked wine in the winter… sounds nice, right? My first encounter with mulled wine was during a visit at the Sternberk Castle right outside of Prague. I was apprehensive at first because warm wine just did not sound appealing, but upon tasting it, my mind quickly changed. The spices are key to making the warmth of the wine delectable.

Here is an easy mulled wine recipe (inspired by Gimme Some Oven ) that you can try right at home.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) red wine
  • 1 sliced orange,
  • 1/4 cup of honey or sugar
  • 8 cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 star anise


You’ll want to bring all of these ingredients together in sauce pan and bring to a simmer for up to 2-3 hours. Afterwards, strain the wine and serve. We served the mulled wine in our polka dot Mon Paris red wine goblet and garnished it with an additional cinnamon stick, orange and anise.
